Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)
The three-year pilot program (2017-2020) is an employer-driven program to hire foreign workers and international graduates to meet the insufficient labour demand in the Atlantic Canada region.
Canada’s Multi-Year Immigration Plan 2018-2021 specifically allocated immigration admission targets spread over three years from 2017 to 2020.
About the process:
The program allows designated employers in the Atlantic region-Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island to hire candidates without going through the Labour Market Impact Assessment.
The process begins when a designated employer sends a valid job offer to a candidate, who is considered the right match to the job requirements. A designated employer is someone who has received a designation from the province to apply under the pilot program. Once the offer is accepted, the designated employer must commit to support the candidate and his or her settlement in the Atlantic Canada.
In a situation, when an employer needs to fill a vacancy urgently, the employer can apply for temporary work permit to invite the candidate as soon as possible, if the candidates meet certain eligibility conditions.
- Under the pilot program, the employers can hire foreign workers and international students from 1 of 3 sub-programs available as follows
- Atlantic High-Skilled Program
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program
- Atlantic International Graduate Program
- The candidates may become eligible under more than one program, but application could only be initiated under one program. Each program has its own requirements, they generally include:
- valid job offer in the Atlantic province
- skills, experience and education
- language skills
- intention to reside in the Atlantic province
- ability to settle with the family in Canada
